My research interests within the Software Engineering (SE) field are very broad. In that regard, I have been carrying out comprehensive research which has yielded significant enhancements in many sub-areas of software engineering, such as:
Software Estimation
Predictive Models
Software Product Lines
Human Factors in SE
Software Process
Software Testing
Software Engineering Education
Education
Ph.D. in Computer Science, University of Newcastle, U.K., 1991.
M.Sc. in Applied Computing, Institute for Space Research (INPE), Brazil, 1986.
B.Sc. in Computer Science, University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, 1981.
Background
Dr. L.F. Capretz has over 20 years of experience in Software Engineering as practitioner, manager, and educator. He has worked, taught and done research on the engineering of software in North (Canada) and South America (Brazil and Argentina), Europe (U.K. and Italy), Middle East (UAE), and Asia (Japan) since 1981. Before joining the Western Ontario in 2000, he was the Director of Informatics at two universities (UMC and COC) in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Formerly, he had held a tenured faculty position at University of Aizu in Japan.
Dr. L. F. Capretz has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in journals and conferences sponsored by IEEE, ACM, Elsevier, Springer, and UNESCO. He is a co-author (with Faheem Ahmed and Piers Campbell) of a book (Software Product Lines: A Process Assessment Methodology - A Practitioner's Approach) released by VDM-Verlag. He also co-authored (with Miriam Capretz) a book (Object-Oriented Software: Design and Maintenance) published by World Scientific, currently being used in software engineering courses at universities in Japan, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela. He is a MBTI certified practitioner, ACM distinguished member, and IEEE senior member.
Overall, Dr. L. F. Capretz values a healthy balance between work, family and personal interests. He is an antique map collector, plays in a Masters Soccer League during the summer, and practices both cross-country and downhill skiing in the winter. He is fluent in English and Portuguese, has good command of Japanese, fair understanding of Spanish and Italian, and plans to take up Arabic soon.
He is currently the Director of the Software Engineering Program at Western.
Dr. L. F. Capretz is accepting Ph.D. students.
