Summary Information:
Welcome to the website of Kibret
Mequanint at the
Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, University of
Western Ontario, Canada. On the upper right corner of this page, you
will see the menu with links to the different activities of my research
laboratory. My research is primarily in the areas of
tissue
engineering and regenerative medicine using polymeric biomaterials
as templates for tissue fabrication. During my graduate studies, I have
conducted extensive research in polyurethanes for industrial
applications before I expanded into biomaterials and tissue engineering.
Following my PhD in 2001 from the
University of Stellenbosch, I received a
Forschungszentrum Jülich fellowship for advanced research at
the Technical
University of Darmstadt (Germany). This was followed by two
successive postdoctoral fellowships at the Chris Barnard Division of
Cardiothoracic Surgery,
University of Cape Town (South Africa) and at the Department of
Chemical Engineering, McMaster
University (Canada) before taking my current faculty position at
Western.
