Western Engineering Students and Faculty Honoured at USC Awards of Excellence

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Some of Western’s best and brightest were honoured this month by the University Students’ Council at their annual awards ceremony. Western Engineering was represented by a very strong showing of both students and faculty.

Out of only five students university-wide who are selected for the Student Award of Merit, two were from Western Engineering. Federico Berruti (Chemical Engineering/Ivey) and Mark Cicero (Integrated Engineering) received this honour.

The Student Awards of Merit are presented to upper year students who have excelled in at least three of the following areas: academics, student government, athletics, music or dance or fine arts, and philanthropy.

Eight faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) received the University Students’ Council Honour Roll Award of Excellence 2006-2007.

Congratulations to Professors K. Adamiak, J. Jiang, H. Ladak, K. McIsaac, A. Ouda, Q. Rahman, J. Sabarinathan and R. Varma on receiving this award for the teaching of ECE courses. Congratulations goes to Professor M. Bartlett as well, from the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE), who also received this award. Dr. McIsaac, Dr. Rahman and Dr. Ouda also received the award for the teaching of Engineering Science courses. Based on information received from the course and teacher evaluations, the teaching awards are presented from USC on behalf of the students of Western to professors that receive an accumulated average of 6.3 or higher out of 7 on the first 14 questions of the evaluations.

The Awards Ceremony was held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 19th at Conron Hall. President Davenport was also on-hand to congratulate the award winners.
