54th Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference



Hugo deLasa
R.S. Jane Memorial Award Winner

Hugo deLasa, a professor in the Department of  Chemical & Biochemical Engineering and currently the Director of the Chemical Reactor Engineering Centre, was presented with the prestigious R.S. Jane Memorial Award at the 54th Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference that took place in Calgary October 3 - 6.  Also at the conference, the CBE 497 group were chosen as finalists to present their project, Hydrocracking of Vacuum Gas Oil; and Babak Jajuee, a PhD student in the Department of  Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, won the ISEE Graduate Student Paper Competition.

Residents Research Day
Darius Viskontas, a resident in Orthopaedic Surgery working under the co-supervision of Jim Johnson, faculty member in the Departments of Mechanical & Materials Engineering and Surgery, was awarded best research paper at the annual Residents Research Day of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

4th Annual Connected Career Fair Attracts 68 Companies
Western Engineering, in partnership with
Administrative and Commercial Studies (ACS), the Faculty of Science and the Richard Ivey School of Business, hosted the 4th Annual Connected Career Fair September 30 in Thompson Arena.

Elborn Power Shutdown
There will be a power shutdown in Elborn College Thursday, October 21 from 12:01 am - 7:00 am.  This will affect the entire building and is required to complete the high voltage cable replacement.  Questions or concerns regarding this shutdown should be directed to Mike Wolowich at ext. 88713.
   
Spencer Engineering Building Fume Hood Shutdowns
Some of the fume hoods in the Spencer Engineering Building will be shutdown over the next couple of weeks to allow contractors to run ductwork for a new fume hood.

The 14th Annual Lynda Shaw Memorial Distinguished Lecture will be held November 12 at 1:00 pm in Room 1059 of the Spencer Engineering Building. The speaker is Dr. Maria Klawe, Dean of Engineering and Professor of Computer Science, Princeton University.
