Chemical Engineering grads win 2006 INTELLIGEN Inc. Process Design Competition

Trifkovic and Cardoso

Milana Trifkovic and Sandra Cardoso, both recent graduates from Western's Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, won first place in the 2006 INTELLIGEN Inc. Process Design Competition for their project entitled: “Simulation of Process for Manufacturing of Clopidogrel Bisulfate with SuperPro Designer Software Package.”

“A first place finish at this international competition is a nice way to cap off a lot of hard work not only during the school year, but after exams were over as well,” said Trifkovic, now an Accelerated Masters student.

Cardoso, currently employed for an engineering firm in Sarnia adds, “Placing first at the year end competition held at [Western's] Research Park in March was great and we were disappointed about not being able to represent Western at the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers Conference this past October, but winning an international competition is a nice way to end things.”

Their first place finish will not only garner a monetary award for both the authors, but the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering will also recieve a free copy of the current version of SuperPro Designer Software as well.
