Two Western Engineering interns receive CME Scholarships

Chemical Engineering student Radek Rybicki and Mechanical Engineering student Brent Bell have each won a Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) scholarship, valued at $1,000 each. The will both be recognized at the CME Recognition Night on May 2 at the London Convention Centre.

These scholarships are presented annually to Western Engineering students on internship who have made a strong contribution to their employer and have demonstrated an interest in manufacturing. They are sponsored by the Southwestern Ontario branch of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters.

Rybicki is working on an internship with Labatts in their national engineering office in London. His primary duties are project management of major capital expenditures to all seven Canadian Breweries. He was also involved in the design of an ingredient injection system for the new Alexander Keith’s Red brand, which was launched out East in 2006 and in recent weeks in Ontario.

Bell is working on an internship at Dofasco in Hamilton, working as the Project Manager in Metal Forming where he has developed a substantial knowledge of sheet metal forming practices with a hands-on approach. He has been given the opportunity to travel to ten different automotive customers and die shops through out New York, Michigan and across Southern Ontario to provide on-site customer support for Dofasco. Outside of work, Bell has been heavily involved in extracurricular activities at Western, such as the Formula SAE Racing Team.
