Western Engineering welcomed 2008 National Scholars


The National Scholarship Program is Western's most prestigious award for first-year undergraduate students, designed to recognize all-round excellence. They are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic performance to candidates who demonstrate ability for creative and innovative thought and a passion for the pursuit of learning.

Western Engineering welcomed the Faculty’s 2008 National Scholars – Maxime Lafortune, Julien Lapointe, and Kevin Zhou - at a reception in Michael’s Garden on Thursday, October 16, 2008. The Faculty also recognized existing National Scholars, including:

  • David Basu-Roy, Integrated Engineering and Music
  • Federico Berruti, Chemical Engineering with Business
  • Mark Cicero, Integrated Engineering with Medicine
  • Nicole Feldmann, Mechanical Engineering with Law
  • Robyn Hicock Software Engineering
  • Dustin Hughes, Chemical Engineering
  • Ryan Katchky, Mechanical Engineering with Medicine
  • Julie Ladiges, Electrical Engineering
  • Garett Morin, Biochemical Engineering with Medicine
  • Samir Raza, Mechanical Engineering with Medicine
  • Alexander Reid, Civil Engineering with Medicine
  • Paola Soriano, Mechanical Engineering with Medicine

    National Scholarships also recognize exceptional achievement in extracurricular activities such as the arts and athletics. A special emphasis is placed on a candidate’s commitment to community service through ongoing contributions to school and community life.
