Western Engineering welcomes four new faculty members

Western Engineering is pleased to announce that on January 1, 2017, four new faculty members will be joining the team.

Dr. Hamid Abdolvand and Dr. Emily Lalone will both join the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME) as Assistant Professors effective January 1, 2017.

Dr. Abdolvand completed his BSc (2005) and his MSc (2007) at the University of Science and Technology, Iran and his PhD (2012) at Queen’s University all specializing in Mechanical and Materials Engineering.  His research interests focus on materials engineering problems of interest to the nuclear power industry.  

Dr. Lalone completed her BSc (Medical Sciences) (2007) and her PhD (Biomedical Engineering) (2012) both at Western University.  Her research interests focus on biomechanics combining imaging and engineering innovations to study musculoskeletal health and mobility.

Dr. Martha Dagnew and Dr. Mohammad Reza Najafi will both join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) as Assistant Professors effective January 1, 2017.

Dr. Dagnew completed her BSc (1996) at Alemaya University, Ethiopia and her MSc (Bio-resource Engineering) (2002) at the University of Saskatchewan and MSc (2005) (Environmental Engineering) at Concordia University.  Additionally, she received her PhD (Environmental Engineering) (2010) at the University of Waterloo.  She is coming to us from GE Water and Process Technologies in Oakville as a Lead Engineer.  Her research interests focus on waste water treatment.

Dr. Najafi completed his BSc (2004) at Shahid Beheshti University, Iran and his MSc (2007) at Toosi University of Technology, Iran.  Additionally, he completed his PhD (2013) at Portland State University.  His research interests focus on climate change modeling related to areas of water, structure and infrastructure and wind.
