The Western Engineering Toboggan Team (WETT) took home first place at the 2013 Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) hosted in Vancouver by the University of British Columbia from Jan. 23-27.

The winning trophy, the CSCE Cup, was presented to the team on Saturday night along with the $2,000 Holcim award for Sustainable Construction and the award for winning the Giant Slalom course on race day.

WETT competed against 22 other teams from across Canada, with over 450 competitors.

“This is WETT's best finish ever at GNCTR,” says Rob Volcko, WETT team captain. “[Our finish] is a result of eight months of dedication, effort, and passion.”

GNCTR 2014 will be hosted in London by a group of current and former students from Western Engineering.

“We are proud to say that WETT will be the defending, hosting champions for GNCTR 2014,” says Volcko. “We are very excited to continue our successes at next year's competition.”
