The American Institute of Chemical Engineers has named Franco Berruti the recipient of 2013 Lectureship in Fluidization Award, under the Particle Technology Forum.

This award, sponsored by Particulate Solid Research, Inc., recognizes an individual's outstanding scientific/technical research contributions with impact in the field of fluidization and fluid-particle flow systems.

Berruti, Director of the Institute of Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR) and professor of Chemical Engineering at Western, receives this award for his outstanding contributions in the field of hydrodynamics of conventional and fast fluidized beds, and to their application to catalytic and thermal cracking processes.

“Franco has made major contributions in the use of fluidized beds for the pyrolytic cracking of biomass residues,” says the Group 3B (Fluidization and Fluid Particle Systems) nomination committee.  “He has shown great entrepreneurial skill in leading and coordinating a network of Canadian researchers working on agricultural biorefining, as well as several other research consortia involving collaboration among disparate groups.”

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) will present Berruti with this prestigious international award during the award ceremony at the Particle Technology Forum dinner held during the Annual AIChE meeting on November 6, 2013 in San Francisco.
