NOTICE OF ANTICIPATED LIMITED-DUTIES APPOINTMENT(S)

The Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering expects to have Limited-Duties (Part-time) appointments to teach the following course(s) during the Summer period May 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012:

ON CAMPUS

ES 1021A       Properties of Materials (intersession-6 weeks)

MME 9670      Engineering Communications (intersession – 6 weeks)

Please note offerings could be assigned to the workload of full-time faculty or to part-time faculty with seniority or preference rights in accordance with the Collective Agreement, or left unfilled based on operational/enrolment requirements.

Candidates must have qualifications appropriate to the course(s) for which application is being made and a demonstrated record of performance in teaching.

Applications are invited for a probationary (tenure-track) appointment in the area of microstructure-mechanical property relationships in engineering materials. Materials of interest include: ductile metallic and/or polymeric materials in their monolithic form or as constituents within a composite.  The successful applicant’s research will be either experimentally- or numerically-based but must strongly compliment the existing research efforts of Western’s Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering in the areas of micro-mechanisms of plastic deformation, modelling of the mechanical response of micro-/nano-scale devices, and manufacturing processes involving plastic forming of metals, polymers and composites. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering effective July 1, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. If qualifications and experience warrant a higher rank, consideration will be given to an appointment at the Associate Professor (probationary tenure track) rank.

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering is one of four departments in Western Engineering (http://www.eng.uwo.ca). The Department currently has 23 faculty members, 6 staff members, and 124 graduate students enrolled in the MEng, MESc and PhD programs (http://www.eng.uwo.ca/mechanical) and is involved in research in  five strategic areas (thermofluids, materials, biomechanics, automation technologies & systems, solid mechanics & dynamics).

Situated in picturesque London, Ontario, a city with a population of approximately 350,000 along the banks of the Thames River, The University of Western Ontario is a prominent academic institution that has made a commitment to excel as a research intensive university (http://communications.uwo.ca/western/about.html). 

We seek energetic and dynamic candidates who will be able to positively contribute to both teaching and research efforts of our department. The successful candidate will have an appropriate Ph.D. degree and will have an outstanding record of research and publication. Preference will be given to those candidates with a strong record of practical/experimental research. Candidate will be expected to participate in the normal administrative activities of the Department, Faculty and University.  Commitment to or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is required for this appointment.
