Application Process

Formal application, including the non-refundable application fee and all supporting documentation may now be uploaded electronically. However, please note the following:

  • English Proficiency score results must be verified by Western in order to be considered valid.

  • Once an application is submitted, it is not possible to make changes unless an applicant contacts The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies or the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

  • Each applicant must still ensure we receive official academic transcripts and diplomas from all post secondary institutions attended, ONLY if accepted into our program.

  • Once your electronic application is uploaded and a Western ID is created, your file will be reviewed and assessed by SGPS, and then released to the MME program for further review and final decision. Note only applications which are complete by the deadline are reviewed and assessed.

  • Once an application is assessed and an applicant is eligible for admission consideration, the electronic application file is open to be reviewed by all faculty members. We will also notify the potential supervisor(s) listed (if any) in the supplemental question page. Each applicant will be contacted once program assessment is complete, therefore we request applicants not to send multiple emails regarding status.

  • Should a faculty member be interested in your file and wish to pursue it further, he/she will be in contact with you.

  • Applications eligible for admission consideration remain open in a holding pattern, until the start date of the term applied to, after which time they are automatically closed.  Due to the volume of applications received, applications are not kept open indefinitely.
  • Please note all offers of admission are conditional and each new student will not be term activated until all required official documentation (as stated in your official offer of admission from Western) is received by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, prior to the start of the program or upon arrival. Official documentation must be submitted in a sealed envelope by the issuing institution, or arrangements made for the issuing institition to provide our School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies electronic documents uploaded to a secure site.

The responsibility rests with the applicant to ensure all documentation required is submitted prior to our posted deadlines:
