Engineering
Externship Program in MME (EEP)
The Engineering Externship Program (EEP) in Mechanical and Materials Engineering in linked to the PEME program, which is delivered each year by Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology.
What is PEME?
Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology, in collaboration with the MME Department at UWO has developed an eight-month certificate program called "Practical Elements in Mechanical Engineering (PEME)". The PEME program is comprised of practical courses in machining, welding, metrology, etc. (PEME program.htm) and was designed specifically to give university engineering students exposure to the practical side of their profession.

How long will it take to
complete the PEME Program?
The PEME certificate is a two-term program that runs from Sept-April every year at Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology starting in 2010. The courses combine to take approximately 28 hours per week for each of the two terms.
Why do we offer PEME?
The PEME program was developed mainly in response to the changing backgrounds of students entering university engineering programs. PEME will provide an opportunity for interested students to get exposure to some practical courses outside the traditional Mechanical engineering curriculum. The PEME program is thus a formal avenue whereby students have an opportunity to gain some additional practical knowledge of their profession by taking specialized courses, as listed under The Program.

Am I eligible? Students in the Mechanical & Materials Engineering program at UWO who have at least a 60 percent yearly weighted average with no failures may apply for a course at Western called ES 2275 - Engineering Externship Program (EEP) following their 2nd or 3rd years of study.
How do I apply?
The intent to apply to ES2275 must be made directly to the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering using the form provided on this website (Statement of Interest). The forms will be date/time stamped; the program is competitive and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, although eligibility requirements will be strictly adhered to. The first 25 eligible students will be invited to apply. These students will be interviewed by the program coordinator in MME and the Chair of Applied Science and Technology at Fanshawe College. A maximum of 18 students will be selected for the program and the remaining students will be placed on a waiting list. Students will be guided through the process of applying to Fanshawe College by the program coordinator in MME through the office of the Associate Dean Academic in the faculty of Engineering at UWO.
