First Year Students

Your Western Engineering account will be used to login to all the labs. It is separate from the account you use to access your Western email account and the passwords are not the same.

Your Western One Card is used for access to the Western Engineering labs 24/7 and require on weekends and after 4pm during weekdays.

The ITG Help Desk is available for support and should be your first point of contact for issues logging in, and IT related questions.

Computing Facilities

Computer labs are located in SEB 1005, 1004, 1010, 1012, 1015. Windows 7 is installed in all labs except __ which has Linux. Please use your Western Engineering account to log in to these labs. Network printing is available from all Windows 7 lab computers.

Laptops

You are not required to purchase a laptop for your course work but it is recommended.

Mac Laptops

All the Engineering software used for your course work is Windows based. If you wish to purchase a Mac laptop, you will need to confiugre Boot Camp or purchase Parallels software at the Campus Computer Store, in addition to a Windows license in order to run the Windows-based Engineering applications.

Software

All the software you will need to do your course work is available in all computer labs. The Campus Computer Store offers student pricing for software you would like to have on your personal computer.

If you are a first year student or are a faculty/staff/student in Electrical Engineering, there is Microsoft software available for personal use through MSDNAA. If you are eligible, you should have recieved an email from MSDNAA.

Antivirus software is highly recommended for your personal computers. Western recommends Trend available for PC or Mac which can be purchased at a discount at the Campus Computer Store.

Network Printers

Anyone with a Western Engineering computer account is able to print from all Windows machines when logged into Western Engineering's domain. In order to do so you will need to purchase print credits from Engineering Finance and Stores located in TEB 40.
