Government Funding
The estimated $6.8 million cost of The Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes is being partly funded through the Canada Foundation for Innovation CFI) and the Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT). The Three Little Pigs Research Project at The Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes has been awarded 40% of the total cost (approximately $ 2.72 million) from CFI. A matching amount has also been awarded by OIT.
The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is a national granting agency that provides funds for the purchase of new and replacement equipment and for the renovation and upgrading of new and existing space. CFI’s mandate is to increase the capacity of Canadian universities and other not-for-profit institutions to carry out world-class scientific research and technology development. To implement its mandate, the CFI promotes innovation by investing in research infrastructure, jointly with institutions and their funding partners.
The Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT) is a provincial agency created to help Ontario’s universities, hospitals, colleges and research institutes enhance the infrastructure needed for scientific research and technology development. The Trust has committed over $844 million, the entire original endowment plus earned interest, to support 1,250 projects at 44 Ontario institutions.
