Announcing the

Engineering Career Services is excited to introduce
SECOP. This new
initiative will assist engineering students in gaining work experience before
graduation. The program will help students find co-op placements from the May to
August summer term.
Engineering Career Services offers
SECOP on a voluntary
basis to qualified undergraduate students in all Engineering programs. The
intent of SECOP is to
allow students to experience career-related work terms that enhance and build on
their university learning experience. This combination increases the
motivation of students for learning and generates a greater interest in academic
work. Co-op helps students to develop skills in getting along with people in a
work environment and enhances opportunities for future permanent employment.
In addition to the significant value gained through the experience, students
will also earn a salary.
Considerable effort is devoted to developing,
promoting, and monitoring close relationships between student work experiences
and academic studies. Employer and student evaluations are made at the
completion of the work term. Recognition of work experience is indicated by
a transcript notation on the students' academic record.
The Summer Engineering
Co-op Program follows the guidelines proposed by
the Canadian Association for Cooperative Education (CAFCE), including
preparatory classes for all participating students, a placement process,
employer/student evaluations and work term reports.
