Accelerated Masters Program

This program is offered to current 3rd-year Western Engineering students. In order to be accepted into
the Accelerated M.E.Sc. program, applicants must have an average grade of 80% or above (from their 2nd and 3rd years). The Accelerated M.E.Sc. allows students to receive a M.E.Sc. within 1 year of receiving their B.E.Sc.
The Accelerated M.E.Sc. program also offers collaboration with Select Companies that offer an Internship/Co-Op program with compensation from the Sponsoring Company.
Objective of the Accelerated M.E.Sc. with Internship
- students have the opportunity to work with practicing engineers from top companies
- students perform highly relevant research
- students can assess if they would like a career with the sponsoring company
- sponsoring company can arrange to have research performed on their own premises or at The University of Western Ontario
- sponsoring company can evaluate a student as a potential employee
- sponsoring company can ensure the students received the training and skills required
Initial Stage of the Accelerated M.E.Sc. program
- selection of research supervisor prior to application
- submission of online application (by June 1st) after 3rd year
- commencement of research pertaining to their future M.E.Sc. project, beginning in the summer term, between 3rd and 4th year
- research project is either conducted at UWO or may involve an industrial internship with a sponsoring company
- initiation of work regarding 4th year project (related to M.E.Sc. research project)
- enrolment in up to 2 graduate courses while in 4th year (in addition to the regular 4th year course load)
- maintain an average that is equal to or greater than 70% in 4th year
- officially begin the M.E.Sc. in the May term, following completion of 4th year
Students are encouraged to apply to the NSERC Undergraduate Research Awards (NSERC USRA) in the Winter term of their 3rd year. Students in 4th year are encouraged to apply in the Fall term to scholarships such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) and the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship (NSERC
PGS).
