Master of Engineering in Design and Manufacturing

ADMI
Please note that this program is for individuals who currently live and
work within Southwestern Ontario. International applicants will only be
considered once they have relocated to the area.
The Advanced Design and Manufacturing Institute, ADMI, created through the partnership of five leading Ontario universities, presents a unique, innovative learning experience through a new Master of Engineering in Design and Manufacturing with emphasis on business and management. This exciting program is designed to provide practicing engineers the enhanced knowledge, tools, technology as well as business and management skills, necessary to keep them at the forefront of their profession.
The ADMI vision is to create a new generation of Canadian design and manufacturing engineers with the ability and mindset to propel Ontario Industry into a world leadership position. The collective resources of partner universities and industry are leveraged to provide participants with access to an integrated program of world-class technology, expertise and experience, leading academic training from partner universities and associates, together with innovative technology applications, experiences and best business practices from some of Canada s leading companies.
ADMI is the creative result of innovative thinking and leadership from the engineering and business schools of McMaster University, Queens University, the University of Toronto, the University of Waterloo and the University of Western Ontario.
ADMI represents a unique and special commitment to achieve excellence in graduate engineering education. It represents the collaboration among the engineering and business schools of the partnering universities to deliver a high quality Masters Degree program in Design and Manufacturing. The program builds on the combined established and considerable expertise in manufacturing and design of five of the strongest academic programs available in the province of Ontario, and integrates the elements of business practices and management skills so essential in the competitive engineering marketplace.
Individuals who choose to apply for admission to The University of Western Ontario will, once their application is approved, be registered within
the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Western Ontario. The Master's Degree awarded by Western will be a M.Eng.
in Design and Manufacturing.
The ADMI program is presented in a focused, time-compressed modular format designed to allow practicing engineers to pursue a Masters Degree while continuing to work at their present jobs. Each course is presented as a set of two 4-day-weekend modules; each module involves approximately 30 hours of lectures, discussion and application work. The schedule is designed so that each course module is separated by a 6-week (approximate) interval to facilitate the learning process and to allow for selected projects and assignments to be undertaken.
ADMI courses are structured to include a variety of elements including classroom lectures and discussions, case studies, guest speakers, company visits and practical industrial applications, individual coaching and group interaction.
ADMI program course scheduling requires participants to dedicate four consecutive days of focused participation in a specific course module. Course modules run Thursday through Sunday. Scheduling of Thursday and Friday requires employers to contribute two full days of time for their employee to participate in the course, recognizing that the employee is contributing his or her personal time to participate on Saturday and Sunday. This commitment to shared-time for participation by employer and employee is seen as a very attractive feature of the ADMI program.
Individuals must complete 10 courses to obtain their degree.
Individuals must complete a minimum of two courses per calendar year to maintain program registration status. It is expected that all degree requirements should normally be completed in two to four years
