There are many advantages to entering the job market with more than one degree. Western Engineering makes this process easier for students to achieve by offering strong students the option of an Accelerated Masters Program where they can earn a BESc. (Bachelor of Engineering Science) and an MESc. (Masters of Engineering Science) degree over a five-year time frame. During the last year of study, students receive a graduate student salary. We also offer a primarily course-based MEng degree, which can be completed within one year of undergraduate studies.
This program is offered to current 3rd-year Western Engineering students. In order to be accepted into the Accelerated M.E.Sc. program, applicants must have an average grade of 80% or above (from their 2nd and 3rd years). The Accelerated M.E.Sc. allows students to receive a M.E.Sc. within 1 year of receiving their B.E.Sc.
The Accelerated M.E.Sc. program also offers collaboration with Select Companies that offer an Internship/Co-Op program with compensation from the Sponsoring Company.
Students are encouraged to apply to the NSERC Undergraduate Research Awards (NSERC USRA) in the Winter term of their 3rd year. Students in 4th year are encouraged to apply in the Fall term to scholarships such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) and the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship (NSERC PGS).
