An introduction to biomedical engineering organized around applications of engineering analytical techniques to physiology. Concepts from linear systems analysis and control theory will be used to characterize the time and frequency domain behavior of mechanisms for regulation and adaptation at the organ system level. Emphasis will be placed on models for the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Assignments will make extensive use of numerical models of those systems and will culminate with a design proposal for a medical device.
