Discovery Western Summer Engineering Day Camp

Camp Information

During the months of July and August, Discovery Western offers an exciting summer camp for youths with a special interest in science, engineering, and technology. Over 120 campers in grades 2 through 8 enjoy our dynamic learning environment each and every week.

Currently, Discovery Western offers four camp programs divided by the grade the camper is entering: grades 2/3, 4/5/6, 7/8. Our camp runs Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 4:00pm. For more information on the 2011 camp schedule including pricing, please visit our camp schedule page.

Camp Structure

Our camp is centered around engineering and science projects that are geared towards the age of our campers. All of our projects compliment the Ontario Science Curriculum, which means that campers will have already learnt some of the fundamental concepts our projects use, or they will learn them in the classroom the following year. Our greatest goal is to provide campers with an experience that they will not get in the classroom during the year; to show them fun, exciting, and real-world applications of all that math and science they learn.

Each week our campers will work on 3 to 5 projects, depending on the age and size of the class. Whether it is building a Balloon Car in the 2/3 class, designing a door alarm system in the grade 3/4/5 class, making your own hydraulic lift bridge in the grade 7/8 class, there's something for everyone this year at DW!

Please note: We offer two distinct curriculums (Curriculum A and Curriculum B) so that your child may enjoy two weeks of camp with different activities in each week. Both curriculums will be new this year, and will be designed by our senior instructors during May and June. Every week will feature Discovery Western's popular staples: Water Day, Lego Robolab and The Stock Market Game.

In addition to our projects, each week long session is jam-packed with demonstrations, design projects, scientific and engineering challenges, group activities, tours and more! Each group will also get the chance to spend a day in our Lego Robolab where they will have the opportunity to design, building, and then program a real robot to either compete in a giant battle-bots competition, or to complete a challenging obstacle course designed by our senior instructors
